Product Description

This all-new and expanded second edition of The Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s Guide to Motorcycling Excellence is the most authoritative book ever published on safe riding techniques and strategies for current and prospective motorcyclists who want to do it right.

In a clear, engaging style with detailed diagrams and extensive full-color photographs and illustrations, the book covers rider attitude, protective riding gear, pre-ride inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting, as well as basic and advanced street skills. Tips on how to create a “space cushion” to avoid traffic hazards; stop quickly; countersteer for better control; manage traction; position your body for smoother, more consistent riding; travel skillfully and safely in a group; maneuver effectively and efficiently in off-highway riding; and much more, are included. The new edition also features advice from legendary racers Kevin Schwantz, Nick Ienatsch, Freddie Spencer, Rich Oliver, and Reg Pridmore, as well as contributions from Erik Buell on motorcycle geometry, Keith Code on countersteering, and Paul Thede on suspension adjustment, among other experts.

Founded in 1973, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) is recognized internationally for its rider-training curriculum, which has been used worldwide by thousands of trainers in teaching more than three million motorcyclists the skills necessary to stay safe and have fun on the road. This book is the essence of what the MSF has learned about teaching students of all ages and experience levels. It is the definitive reference for the sport—a perfect refresher for anyone who has ever taken an MSF course, and an eye-opener for those who haven’t.

As the MSF likes to remind us, “The More You Know, The Better It Gets!” This new edition of Motorcycling Excellence provides the opportunity for every motorcyclist to discover for him or herself the thrills and joys of “riding right” by getting the best from self and machine.

Great book for new/renewed riders
After being away from riding for over ten years. This book was a good way to ‘re-learn’ the basics, especially in regards to safety equipment (especially with helmets!).Great group riding tips, and of course, visibility issues. If you are about to study for a m/c permit, buy this book! You won’t regret it.

Great motorcycle product!
Works great and every bottle in the kit has instructions on use. Takes very little work to apply and my bike looks great.

Christmas hassle!
I ordered this in plenty of time to give to my hubby for Christmas; however when I went to wrap it, the box was soaked and fell apart. Called customer service, they were super and shipped another immediately but to my chagrin, the second one was worse than the first. It was so bad, FedEx had wrapped the box in plastic to contain all the leakage. After two tries I gave up, so I can’t even say how good or not this product is!

Still waiting for a resolution
I ordered this kit and when I rec’d it in a timely manner, the kit and package was completely wet from a leak.

I called Customer service, they were very nice and said they would send me out another kit, they did and when I rec’d the 2nd kit it was the exact same situation. The same leak from the largest bottle in the kit leaked out everywhere.

I sent the 2 empty bottles back in the prepaid package and I have not heard back from Amazon or seen a refund.

Product Description

Don’t be surprised if you feel a dry, tickling sensation in the back of your throat after watching the slam-bang racing documentary Dust to Glory. It’s probably from the lingering sand and silt spewed from the knobby wheels of an array of machines that skitter from one end of the Baja Peninsula to the other. Using 90 cameras in a variety of formats, director Dana Brown captures the giddy danger of the race with truly visceral force. In 1967, a few California thrill-seekers had the Eureka spirit to take their homemade race cars for some whooping-up in the wide-open land just a few hours away. Since then, the Baja 1000 has turned into a party-fueled happening that’s more akin to Burning Man than the Indy 500. It’s billed as the world’s longest nonstop race, running point-to-point for 1,000 miles through the Mexican desert from Tijuana to La Paz–pretty much the entire length of Baja.
Dana Brown is the son of Bruce Brown, whose 1966 film The Endless Summer sparked a surfing craze, and still holds up as an incomparable ode to the existential surfing lifestyle. Dust to Glory is by no means so profound and uses more of a Warren Miller thrill-marketing style (he of the annual throwaway extreme-skiing films). Cameras swoop down from helicopters, careen through silt, and are put into tracks over which vehicles pass at extreme speeds. In spite of the adrenaline rush, Dust to Glory is ultimately more about what people think about the higher implications of the competition.

From the creators of Step Into Liquid comes this absolutely exhilarating film about the most notorious and dangerous race in the world: the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. Showcasing Mario Andretti, Robby Gordon, Johnny Campbell and J.N. Roberts, and packed with awesome helicopter footage, in-your-face POV shots and stories of raw courage, Dust to Glory follows a wild assortment of motorcycles, dune buggies, ATV quads and tricked-out trucks in a 32-hour dash across 1,000 miles of unforgiving terrain and delivers such pulse-pounding thrills that you feel like you’ve been there .

Amazon.com
For the love of Baja!
One thing is certain in Baja, and that is that nothing is certain. This movie was beautifully filmed, showing some truly mystical moments that one would experience in the race of all races. The only reason why I gave this film a 4 star rating instead of 5, is because I felt the director spent a little too much time following the motorcycles, and not enough time displaying all which trophy trucks go through. I love all the classes of Baja; I don’t think I’m alone on this when saying that Trophy trucks are the climax of the racing day.

So I was somewhat dissapointed when I realized I was only given maybe a solid 15 mins of trophy truck time, but nonetheless I still enjoyed watching this movie very much. For some time now, I’ve kept telling people that I want to race in the Baja 1000 one day, and all I get is negative feedback, on what a challenge it is, or how expensive a race it is to compete in. But I don’t want to let that stop me, these great racers made it, so why can’t I??? This movie made me internalize my feelings towards Baja even more, the landscaping is so beautiful at times with the trucks roaring through, that I felt tear jerking moments of happiness.

This movie really shows what kind of experience it really is, and it made me want to push to make it there myself! Watching this movie in HD with dolby digital made the experience even more enjoyable, but I think anyone can appreciate this film.

A Must Have for the Off Road Rider
This is one of my favorite documentaries. It’s does a great job of showing how it feels to ride in Baja. A must have for the off-road rider’s collection.

Dust To Glory
Wow, all the reviews here are positive, I wonder if we saw the same movie. When it was coming out I was very excited. The only theatre in all of the south bay that carried it was in Manhattan villiage at the stinky, crappy , little theatre they have. This movie was boring! There was only 4 people in the theatre and it had only been out for a couple of days. Too much interviewing and going back to people. All the action is cut and it sucked! A few good parts with Mouse Mc Coy, and with JC shot from a chopper, but that was it for me. Took all I had not to walk out of the movie.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
The beauty of the South American landscape and of Gael Garcia Bernal (Y Tu Mama Tambien, Bad Education) gives The Motorcycle Diaries a charisma that is decidedly apolitical. But this portrait of the young Che Guevara (later to become a militant revolutionary) is half buddy-movie, half social commentary–and while that may seem an unholy hybrid, under the guidance of Brazillian director Walter Salles (Central Station) the movie is quietly passionate. Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado (Rodrigo de la Serna, a lusty and engaging actor) set off from Buenos Aires, hoping to circumnavigate the continent on a leaky motorcycle. They end up travelling more by foot, hitchhiking, and raft, but their experience of the land and the people affects them profoundly. No movie could affect an audience the same way, but The Motorcycle Diaries gives a soulful glimpse of an awakening social conscience, and that’s worth experiencing. –Bret Fetzer

From The New Yorker
In 1952, a medical student called Ernesto Guevara de la Serna (Gael García Bernal) teamed up with his friend Alberto Granado (Rodrigo de la Serna), a biochemist, and journeyed eight thousand miles through South America. The tale of their travels is the basis for Walter Salles’s ravishing, suggestive, and faintly superfluous film. Both young men are of middle-class Argentinean stock, and Ernesto has a girlfriend so rich and beautiful that her family’s estate, as Alberto notes, looks like Switzerland. If he had stayed with her, Latin-American history might have taken a more placid turn; instead, Ernesto remounted his motorbike, headed into the Andes, and began the determined process of turning into Che Guevara. The film is sprinkled with gestures toward that future, especially when the two men work at a leper colony on the Amazon, but foreshadowing doesn’t always convince; the sequence in which they meet a pair of wandering Communists on the road and drink in the saga of their suffering is biographically accurate, yet it feels dramatically forced. In the end, the film might best be read as a high-class, episodic buddy picture, with the tubby, more skeptical Alberto (he’s like a young Robert Donat) observing with interest the spark of indignation-and the air of chaste reticence-in his impossibly handsome pal. -Anthony Lane

Customer Reviews

Motocross application
This thing is the bomb. Using the tall mount on top of my helmet, you can just see my hands on the handlebars. It’s as close to being there as it gets, the wide angle view looks goofy in a still, but is just how you see it when you are in motion. My wife (non-rider) saw the video the first time and was all excited. She’s seen helmetcam video for a year from my Oregon Scientific helmetcam, but it’s a 52º Field of view, compared to the 170º field of view from the GoPro. She says this one is amazing, and that she didn’t ‘get’ what was exciting about riding MX from the other cam.
It’s a quality unit, light enough you don’t know it’s there. New cases are about $40, so if you biff and shred it, easy fix. You will have to get 1000ma NiMh batteries, battery life is crap with regular duracells. I got by with a new set of batteries each day, but the NiMh give adequate life. The mount isn’t direction sensitive, so you can stick the camera in backwards without any modifications if you like. Get the Motorsports version, it’s got your helmet covered and has all kinds of cool other mounting options in the box. 8^)
To see what the vid looks like, go to the GoPro site and check out the example video from Loretta Lynn’s Am. Nats. Excellent!

Top 10 must have’s!
A friend of mine had a GoPro Hero and I really liked the quality of the images produced from the tiny thing. So I ended up craving for one. I noticed GoPro released the Hero Wide version and after being amazed at the video quality from their testing along with user uploads, the choice was easy. The ease of use, picture quality, and built-in features was more than I expected. 5mp pictures and TV quality video is all I was really after, but also being able to mount this shock/water proof camera in various places was the icing on the cake. I love it, go buy one or five!

The only bad thing I noticed was that some of the plastic mounts it came with were a bit cheap and broke easily. But I still give it 5 outta 5
